Instruction and training in Optimists in 2013 will be organised by the Optimist Fleet. See the Optimist training link on the right of the homepage.
All those who have attended the club training before are working on and improving their sailing and racing skills. As training progresses we hope to have a coach on hand to watch and offer advice when you enter the slow fleet races.
Is it for you? Probably!
If you can already sail round a triangle, you can progress to the CYC training, which ultimately aims to bring you to a standard to join in the slow fleet club races, and beyond that to the RYA squads standard.
Martin Orton is continuing as the head coach for all the sessions in 2013.
In 2011,we introduced the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme log book and followed the stages of race training: Start Racing, Intermediate Racing and Advanced Racing. Well Done to all of you who made the grade over the past 2 years! We will continue this in 2013.
The log book cost is £4.50, I have some to sell to you!
The club training for the juniors is usually in Toppers and Fevas. Other boats are invited to attend! During 2012 we coached a group of young enthusiastic laser sailors also and plan to expand this for 2013, as we now have 2 Lasers owned by the club available for hire.
There will of course be opportunities to race in the slow fleet in all the club racing series. Take advantage of that and have a go or just go for a sail while the racing is on
We split the fleet according to experience and ability, and try to train in groups of 8 or less.
Times are; “ Boats ready, crew changed if possible!”
Toppers and Fevas.
I will try and hold a Laser group on these days also, depending on numbers of Toppers and Fevas and RIB availability.

TRAINING PRICES
The generosity of club member coaches in providing their services for free, together with the Volvo Championship Club funding and the generosity of the RYA in providing Instructor courses, means that we can keep the fees at very reasonable rates.
I hope you will agree that this is still excellent value for sessions that everyone: sailors, parents and coaches thoroughly enjoy. Thank you so much for your support.
We do rely on help from youth sailors’ parents on the training days. Last year was a lot of fun and I am extremely grateful to all of you who mucked in and helped in many ways.
I will be asking for help nearer the time for tea bar duties, coach boat crew, beachmaster, safety boat launching and retrieving.
Training fee for Double-handed boat : £15

2)AND Please fill in the booking form which is at the bottom of the 'club training and coaching programme 2013' page on this website. Once the booking form is received we can confirm your booking.
Club Boat Hire:
If you wish to hire the club boats, you will need to book with CYC office. It is very important that you read and comply with the hire conditions. These are available to read from the Office and can be Emailed to you. They will need to be signed before the boats are taken. The boats need to be checked back in at the end of each hire session. You will be asked to lay out the equipment for checking- good detailed pictures are provided with the keys to make this a very easy and simple process.
Members Hire charges per day:
Topper : £14
RS Feva : £18
Laser : £25
There is a £50 CASH deposit payable for club Topper and RS Feva hire, and £75 for club Laser hire, returnable after the boats have been checked back in.

Youth Turbo Regatta
For Fevas, Toppers and Lasers
Club members only. 21st July, Sunday. 0930.
This will be a another quick fire series of many short races, and an excellent opportunity to practise your starting!
This year it will be held alongside a youth coaching session, so those happy to race and ready for the excitement of short sharp races can go for it, whilst the beginners groups can continue their training.
CYC Dinghy Week, incorporating Family and Junior Week
An exciting programme of racing each day with activities on and off the water . Dinghy week information will be posted nearer the time in its own section on the website.
2013 Dinghy and Family Week will include a coached regatta fleet and an instructed learn to sail course.
Monday 5th August to Friday 9th August inclusive.
East Head Cruise and Race
18th August, Sunday. 1000h .
There will be a cruise and race down to East Head for a picnic on the beach and back! We tried this in 2012: the first date was blown off, the second date was a huge amount of fun. Families and Adults sailed and kayaked down to East Head with Cyclone and a Rib in support. We picnicked and played on the beach for 4 hours before returning to CYC.
West Sussex School and Youth Sailing Association Regatta
This 2 day event will be held at Dell Quay this year, on Saturday 21st& Sunday 22nd September 2013, about 120 children take part. CYC won the shield in 2011, and the Topper entrants did well in 2012 at Felpham, braving strong winds on the sea. Here’s another chance to race in familiar sheltered waters, so mark it off in your diary. Children relatively new to racing are very welcome at this event. Lets see if we can win the shield back!
